It is a packed weekend of activity in Worcester (and the country with the Rugby World Cup) so here is the lowdown of what and where:

Music to City’s Ears

The Worcester Music Festival kicks off today and has 250 performances between now and Sunday night. One of the UK’s fastest growing metropolitan live music events – it is a three-day celebration of original music which returns for the eighth consecutive year.

Taking place in around multiple venues across the city, from pubs, clubs, restaurants and cafes to historic buildings, river cruisers, record shops, on the streets and even in breweries, the festival is absolutely FREE to attend with literally hundreds of gigs to choose from with some of the best, new and emerging artists in the UK. There are scores of free music-related workshops, where adults and children can indulge in everything from drum clinics and Q&As with industry experts to learning an instrument or singing in a pop choir. Amateur photographers of any age or experience can also enter the annual photography competition.

A non-profit making event, the whole thing is organised by local volunteers, who along with the artists performing for free, pull together to promote live music around the city and raise money for charity.

Worcester City Run

The Second Worcester City Run takes place throughout the city centre on Sunday with the 10k and Run Bike Run events. After Paula Radcliffe’s appearance last year, 2015 sees European 10,000m champion Jo Pavey in town running alongside thousands of locals. Come on down for what will be a brilliant atmosphere that morning.

A Fresh Start

And don’t forget that Fresher’s Week begins this weekend as the College and University students return in earnest. Along with the World Cup, Worcester’s night time scene will be a great one to savour so don’t forget to check out our fantastic pubs where in many you will be able to see England begin proceedings against face Fiji tonight (kick off 8pm).

A New Phase for Worcester

If you are out shopping today or over the weekend, don’t forget that ladies fashion retailer Phase Eight opens in CrownGate today!
